Snakes Reptiles and amphibians
Snakes such as 'Olive House' and 'Skaapsteker' are kept for educational purposes. Thus children and adults alike can see that all the myths about snakes are untrue!

The Cape dwarf chameleon colony have had many litters of up to 7 young. The gerbil family have also been successful breeders.
Skinks (lizards), young terrapins, frogs and toads are also kept.
Porcupines
A pair of porcupines are kept in an enclosed area next to the lecture theatre. They may move freely in and out of their burrow, but spend most of the day there. The burrow has been built right next to a wall, and glass panels allow visitors to take a peek into the daily life of a pair of porcupines. Be sure to check the news page often for information on the pair.

Aquarium
The freshwater aquarium showcases many of the indigenous fish which are found in the both Rondevlei and Zeekoevlei. These include Common Carp, Mirror carp, Banded and Mozambique Tilapia, Mullet, as well as swimming crabs and tube worms!
